Chapter 2

Kibum did everything to avoid the older boy. He skipped away when he heard his gentle voice a few meters from him, he ran away when their gap was almost too close, he hid himself behind a wall when Jonghyun seemed like looking around trying to find someone (which was maybe him).

He could do anything right. The night Jonghyun left him breathless in front of his house with a peck that burned his temple, Kibum trashed around on his bed, unable to get any sleep. He seemed couldn’t stop thinking about Jonghyun and his simple peck, not to mention he would touch his temple everytime Jonghyun invaded his mind.

He stopped having lunch in the lunch room and he hid himself very well on the rooftop of the school. He was accustomed with loneliness and he grew fond with the feeling. His life was very peaceful at the moment before Jonghyun decided to approach him and confessed to him and he wouldn’t let it changed.

“Kibummie?”

The person with the said name jolted up in surprise, a small piece of meat got down into his throat without being able to be chewed, resulting him into a coughing mess. Kibum grabbed his bottle and gulped down the water, not wanting to die too soon since he still wanted to have a family and so on.

He glared at whomever the person that almost killed him and when he found Jonghyun smiled guiltily at him, his eyes softened. “You okay, Kibum?”

“W-What are you doing here?”

“I can’t find you everywhere for a week and half so I come to the last place that I haven’t checked on and I’m right.”

Kibum continued to glare at him but the glare that he gave him wasn’t that sharp like before. “So you decided to creep on me and made me choke to death?”

Jonghyun smiled sheepishly and scratched his cheek. “Well, I don’t have any intention on killing the person that I like so... no, I’m not!” said Jonghyun with a confident smile. Kibum blushed at the words ‘the person that I like’ and he quickly looked away from the older boy.

“W-What... What do you want?”

“I can’t find you since like forever, Kibum! Why did you change your eating place? I was waiting for you in the lunch room, staring at the glass door and counting on time whether you will show up or not...” pouted Jonghyun and Kibum once again cursed himself for having a weak spot for puppies.

“I-I just didn’t feel like eating in crowd,” answered Kibum softly. Jonghyun hummed at his answer before smiling wider at him. “So, you moved here?”

Kibum nodded before stuffing his mouth with another rice ball. With this, Jonghyun wouldn’t ask him another question since he was basically eating his lunch. He inwardly cheered when Jonghyun stopped talking, but a frown quickly came up onto his face since Jonghyun stared at him intently. “W-What are you looking at?” And it was Kibum who started to talk first. Oh damn.

“You.”

“A-And why are you looking at me?”

“Because you are so cute and I have an internal war whether I should hug you or not.”

Kibum gaped at his bluntness and decided to ignore the statement, even though his cheeks were betraying him by showing the redness of his face to the smirking Jonghyun. He pushed another rice ball into his mouth to distract his attention from Jonghyun. But, instead of distracting himself, it seemed like pulling Jonghyun’s attention towards him.

A thumb was tenderly wiping a single rice from the corner of his lips and Kibum swore he looked like a tomato right at that time. Jonghyun smiled at him while wiping his lips gently before chuckling at his face.

“You are so adorable, I’m afraid I can’t stop myself from attacking you.”

Kibum abruptly backed away and crossed his arms in front of his chest, pulling a loud laughter from Jonghyun. “Y-You should see your face, Kibum-ah!” said Jonghyun between his laughs. Kibum felt like embarrassing himself and he quickly closed the lid of his lunch box, standing up from there and felt like escaping from this bullshit.

He is just playing around with me!

“Where are you going?” asked Jonghyun, still sitting on the ground with his tight grip on Kibum’s wrist. Kibum shook his hand, trying to break free from the grip. “N-None of your business.”

“Kibum, wait. I’m sorry.”

Kibum kept his gaze to the ground, feeling humiliated by the other boy. He hugged his lunch box close to his chest while his fist pushed his glasses up his nose. He couldn’t stand it anymore.

“P-Please stop playing around with me... I don’t have time to take this game with you.”

Jonghyun pulled him to face him but Kibum kept his head down. “What are you saying? I’m not playing around with you!”

“S-Stop humiliating me and l-leave me alone.”

“Kibum-ah, I do like you! Why don’t you believe it? Why won’t you give me a chance?” asked Jonghyun in a desperate voice and Kibum closed his eyes, not wanting the guilty feeling to hit him.

“B-Because... you and I are so different. Who would want to hang around a loser like me?”

Jonghyun rose up from the ground and stood behind Kibum, hand still gripping tightly around the younger boy’s wrist. “Kim Kibum. I like you and I want you to give me a chance to prove myself. I’m not playing a game with you and there’s no difference between us. I’m just a normal school boy, just like you.”

Kibum remained silent and took a deep breath. He had a strong feeling that he should believe Jonghyun’s words.

“Kibum-ah, give me a chance, will you?”

Jonghyun stared at the younger boy’s back, waiting for the answer. Kibum was debating with himself.

If I push him away, what will happen? If I trust him, what will happen?

Another minute passed with them staying like that before Kibum broke the long silence.

“F-Fine...” whispered Kibum softly and Jonghyun’s face lit up in hope. “Really? Kibum, you will give me a chance?!”

Kibum simply nodded his head, “B-But...”

“But?”

“But promise me something...”

“What is it?”

“P-Promise me not to surprise me with your sudden appearance. I don’t want to die young...”

Jonghyun chuckled before pulling the younger boy into his arms, his chest against Kibum’s back. “I promise, Kibummie.” And he pressed a gentle peck on the younger boy’s cheek. Kibum blushed and kept his head down.

I hope I don’t choose the wrong decision...

***

Kim Kibum. A nerd in the school. He had a pair of feline eyes which he thought were really weird so he covered them up with wide glasses. He also had soft black hair which was too plain since he combed his hair neatly to his head. He had pale skin which sometimes he thought too pale and it drew people’s attention. He also wore his shirt all buttoned up until under his chin—typical old-fashioned kid.

But he never thought that a popular boy in the school would have any interest in him. Moreover he was so handsome and his voice was so soothing. His face reminded Kibum with a dinosaur from the cartoon that he often watched when he was kid but his eyes showed him the sight of imaginary puppy.

Since the day Kibum gave the older boy a permission to practically flirt with him and tried his best to take Kibum out, Jonghyun had been trying like crazy. Kibum often found himself being trapped in the older boy’s fingers and he silently said nothing about it. He kind of liked it, to be honest.

On one fine day, Kibum was silently studying in the library until the peaceful surrounding was stopped by the light kick on his leg. Kibum frowned and lifted his head up from the book he was reading, eyes glaring at the childish-older boy who was happened to be the culprit. “What is it, hyung?” asked Kibum lazily. Jonghyun pouted at his ignorant and kicked him again, that time earned a low hiss from Kibum.

“That hurt! What do you want?”

“Kibum, talk to me!” whined Jonghyun and it almost pulled a smile on Kibum’s lips—almost.

“This is library. We are supposed to keep quiet.” Kibum answered him nonchalantly. Jonghyun scrunched up his nose cutely before looking around, trying to find people around them. And to his luck, he found no one around them since people didn’t usually like to spend three hours in the library, unlike Kibum—and now Jonghyun as well.

Jonghyun silently stood up, pushing the chair without a sound before making his way to sit beside the younger boy. Kibum ignored him, since he knew that Jonghyun might be planning another childish thing to bother him.

Oh, how wrong Kibum was.

Jonghyun sat right beside him, so close as if he wanted their bodies to be pressed together. A strong arm sneaked down on Kibum’s waist, wrapped tightly there. Kibum jolted up in surprise and glared at the grinning older boy. “What do you think you are doing?” asked Kibum, half whispering-half yelling. Jonghyun chose to ignore his question and winked at him, before Kibum felt a hot breath was hitting his sensitive ear.

“Holding you... like this.” Finally Jonghyun answered the question. Kibum shivered at the way Jonghyun whispered against his ear, automatically tilted his head to prevent Jonghyun from getting any closer to his ear.

“J-Jonghyun hyung...”

“What? Just continue your study, Kibummie.”

Kibum bit down on his lip as he fought back a whimper when Jonghyun pressed his lips against his again-sensitive ear. He closed his eyes as the shiver ran down his spine when he felt Jonghyun was teasingly brushed his lips against his nape.

This bastard...

“J-Jjong, s-stop...”

“Is that a new nickname I heard? Cute.”

The arm around his waist tightened and Kibum felt the last bit of his energy left his body. He felt weak all of sudden, not to mention he could not break free from Jonghyun’s iron-like grip. So those muscles were not only for showing off.

“...ah!” A small whimper escaped Kibum’s lips before he quickly covered his mouth with his palms. Jonghyun just bit down at his nape, teasing but enough to make Kibum squirmed in discomfort. He heard Jonghyun’s chuckle against his neck and he weakly hit the muscled arm around him.

“J-Jjong hyung... S-Stop it!”

“Only if you agree to have a date with me,” whispered Jonghyun, lips brushing Kibum’s ear again. Kibum closed his eyes tightly, feeling another shiver ran through his body before he nodded his head.

Suddenly, the warmth around his body left him and Kibum opened his eyes, only to find the smirking Jonghyun. “Pack you books. We are leaving.”

“H-Huh?”

“Come on! We have a date.”

“R-Right now?”

“My silly Bummie... of course!”

Kibum blushed at the word ‘my’ before he silently nodded his head. Right after he was done with packing his book, Jonghyun grabbed his hand, holding it tightly in his own and they made their way out from the library. Hell, Kibum’s heart thumped against his chest.

“So, the date is only for eating the street foods?” asked Kibum while looking at the small plate of the spicy rice cakes that Jonghyun just took from the seller ahjumma. Jonghyun led him to the nearest bench in the park, hands still clasped together.

“Yeah, what do you think we are doing for our date?”

“Nothing.” Kibum answered him nonchalantly. When Jonghyun let go of his hand to pick up the small stick to eat the rice cake, Kibum felt empty. No, no, I didn’t like him.

“Now, say ‘ah’, Bummie.”

“Huh?”

Jonghyun put the well prepared rice cake ready in front of his still closed mouth. “W-What...?”

“Open your mouth, Bummie. It’s great when it’s still hot! Come on, say ‘ah’!”

Kibum reluctantly opened his mouth, petting Jonghyun put a piece of spicy rice cake into his mouth. Jonghyun smiled gently at him, grinning when Kibum winced at the hotness of the food. “It’s... hot!”

“Sorry,” said Jonghyun with a smile before eating for himself. Kibum pouted at the older boy, lightly hitting his upper arm. “Stupid...”

Jonghyun chuckled at his cuteness before ruffling Kibum’s neat hair with his free hand. Kibum whined at his act before quickly putting his hair back into their right place. Jonghyun stared silently at him. “It will be nice if you change your hair style, Bum-ah.”

Kibum blushed from at the new nickname from Jonghyun. The older boy had been calling him with various nicknames and Kibum had given up telling Jonghyun to call him by his ‘real’ name. “I don’t need that.”

“Your hair’s so soft. If your change them into more stylish, I’m sure you will look sexier.”

At the word, Kibum’s face turned crimson red. “W-What?!”

Jonghyun smirked at him and continued eating, ignoring his question. Kibum looked away from the teasing smirk, trying to distract himself from Jonghyun’s latest remark. Jonghyun sure did know how to silence Kibum.

Life could have never been better—that was what Kibum thought. It had been about a month since he gave Jonghyun a ‘chance’ to prove himself. Kibum wasn’t really fond about the idea of being with the older boy, but he had to admit that he did enjoy having Jonghyun by his side for all this time.

They had their lunch on the rooftop everyday, not really different from what was going to happen today. Kibum opened the lid of his lunchbox, smiling to himself as he looked at his creation. Jonghyun let out a ‘wah’ while staring into the box, clearly amazed by the food.

“Bummie, you never cooked for me until now,” said Jonghyun with a pout. Kibum rolled his eyes before picking up a pair of chopsticks from the small bag of his lunchbox. He picked a slice of chicken stir fry and held it up in front of Jonghyun’s mouth, surprising the older boy—and even surprising himself.

“Kibum...?”

“E-Eat it... Hurry!”

Jonghyun stared at him for a while before smiling, lips enclosing around the chopsticks to take the said food. Kibum stared at him for a while, waiting for any comment from Jonghyun. When the older boy held two thumbs up, Kibum smiled widely before eating.

They had been doing some skin ships, well, most likely Jonghyun doing to Kibum, but the younger boy said nothing about it. He enjoyed having some simple skin ships with Jonghyun, as long as they were alone. Like this, when Jonghyun had his arm around Kibum’s waist, body pressed together with no gap between them, Kibum enjoyed it.

“Kibum, I want the eggroll!”

Kibum nodded before picking up the yellow roll of the egg, holding it up for Jonghyun to eat. The older boy happily took the said piece into his mouth, grinning again when the nice taste hit his tongue. “Bummie, you are so amazing!”

Kibum let out a soft giggle and smiled, “Thanks, Jjong...”

Jonghyun stopped munching the food, staring silently at Kibum. “So, you decide to drop the formality, eh? Calling me ‘Jjong’ only?”

Kibum blushed at his remark before playing with his fingers. “I-Is that fine? Do you mind?” Jonghyun smiled at his questions before laughing lightly. “No, I don’t mind. And Kibummie, stop being so adorable or I will eat you up!”

They ate in silence, still with Jonghyun’s arm secured tightly around his body and still with Kibum feeding the older boy with a smile. The foods were long gone and Jonghyun let out a long-satisfied sigh. “I’m so full! Thanks for the food, Bummie!”

“You’re welcome...”

Jonghyun grinned and took a mineral bottle, drinking the water messily at the drops were running down his jaw and to his neck. Kibum’s eyes were following the water drops though. Was that normal for someone to look so attractive while just drinking the mineral water?

“...bum? Kibum?”

Kibum woke up from his trance and was met with Jonghyun’s concerned eyes. “H-Huh?”

“You okay?”

“Y-Yes, I’m fine...”

Jonghyun sent him a nod and smile, propping his body with both of his palms against the ground. Kibum sat straight against the wall, watching Jonghyun who was sitting in front of him, eyes glued to the blue sky and the white clouds. He felt like he couldn’t take his eyes off from the older boy. Jonghyun drew his attention so much. What was this feeling?

Everything was so silence, so peaceful, so calm, until Kibum broke it.

“Jjong?”

“Mm?”

“Why do you like me?”

Jonghyun glanced at Kibum and smiled. “Why do you ask?”

“W-Well... I... don’t know... no reason...”

Jonghyun smiled and chuckled, liking the soft voice of the younger boy. “I guess it was love at the first sight, if you could say so.”

Kibum stared into Jonghyun’s brown eyes, cursing himself internally for doing so since he couldn’t take his gaze away now. “Love... at the first sight?” Jonghyun nodded, “Yeah. It was that time of that first day when you were still freshmen... I saw you and... Boom, I fell for you.”

Kibum hummed; face blushing in red before he looked down onto his lap. Maybe it wasn’t a good question since now they fell into an uncomfortable silence. Jonghyun stared at the blushing boy in front of him; a smile crept onto his face before he leaned closer. “Hey, you are shy?”

“N-No...!” Kibum refused to state the truth even though the evidence was clear on his red face. Jonghyun chuckled at his adorable act before lifting Kibum’s chin with his fingers, smiling so brightly until it blinded Kibum.

“You are so cute. I can’t help but falling deeper for you.”

And with that, Jonghyun leaned closer, pressing their lips together in the softest touch ever.
