Title: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Pairing: Jongkey
Genre: Romance, Fluff
Length: Oneshot
Summary: Have yourself a merry little Christmas. No, scratch that. Jonghyun had a better idea for this year’s Christmas.
It was cold. The weather was so cold. Kibum breathed through his mouth, red button-like nose was freezing. He wanted nothing more than sitting in front of his heater and curled up against the couch, complete with the thick blanket his mother bought for him last year.
This year’s Christmas was colder than before.
Moreover, with the last thing that Kibum had heard from his close friend; Taemin.
“I have a crush on that Jonghyun.”
Kibum swore he could hear the sound of his heart breaking inside. It was just so unbelievable.
Crushing on the same person as your friend was kind of disturbing. Kibum hated that feeling.
“Kibum-ah?”
Breaking from his trance, Kibum turned to his friend and hummed distractedly. He could see Tamein watching hi worriedly. Kibum felt the guilt in his stomach had gotten heavier by the time Taemin stared questioningly at him.
“You okay?” Taemin whispered to him, a hand rubbing his shoulder comfortingly. Kibum sent his a smile, nodding his head. “You sure?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry about it.”
“You are freezing. Let’s walk faster, you and I need a cup of hot chocolate soon.” Taemin said with a wide grin and Kibum felt the burden was lifted a bit.
He didn’t need this feeling. Kibum wanted nothing bad happened between him and Taemin. He had already considered Taemin as one of the closest friends he had ever had. He cherished Taemin as his friend; even though it meant to sacrifice his own romance life.
He, Kim Jonghyun, was one of those people that had managed to steal Kibum’s attention in less than a second. He was just that amazing. With a pair of huge, round eyes, he had made Kibum enchanted just by walking passed him.
It was at spring last year. Kibum pushed the strap of his messenger bag on his shoulder, a hand hugging the book which was as thick as a dictionary. It was less crowded at the lockers hall. Kibum left his locker after he had dumped his algebra books and walked along the path leading to his next class in the other building. That was the first time he had seen Jonghyun.
And Jonghyun was just that perfect.
Call him a stalker and Kibum would kick you on your ass. He was no stalker. He was just happened to be on the same places where Jonghyun was. Yeah, places.
Jonghyun seemed to have this charisma to pull Kibum close, as if he had had a magnet around him. Kibum was just that easy to be manipulated, moreover by someone as great as Jonghyun.
Kibum learned a lot about Jonghyun. He was a year older than him. He was majoring in the music and art department, and Kibum was dying to hear him sing. Jonghyun had one particular friend—Kibum remembered his name as Jinko what, wait, maybe it was Jinmi, oh yeah, Jinki—and Kibum had thought that there was something between those two. Much to Kibum’s relief, there was nothing. Jinmo, ah no, Jinki was way too clumsy for Jonghyun.
Taemin knew nothing about his not-so-little crush on Jonghyun. Kibum kept everything down and he had no intention on telling it all over the world.
So, when Kibum was sipping his hot chocolate, Jonghyun stopped by their table and he was glad he didn’t spill the drink on his crush’s coat. Jonghyun eyed him weirdly and Kibum cursed himself, way to go Kibum, he didn’t even know you and now he had this weird image about you, just great.
“Hey, Jong hyung.” Kibum heard Taemin called him casually. Kibum gripped his fist, not wanting to flip the table over and choke Taemin about why didn’t he told him that he had known Jonghyun.
“Hey, Taem. Having a little break?”
“Yeah. Wanna sit down for a bit? You seem cold. The snow is thick outside, eh?”
Oh, Kibum couldn’t hold it anymore. He wanted to run away from their flirting, slamming the door behind his back, and wailed under his covers. Just let Kkomde be the one to witness his miserable state.
“Yeah, it is. Oh Taem, and this is...?” Jonghyun asked, eyes darting towards Kibum. He felt himseld tensed as now Jonghyun’s attention was focused on him.
“Oh, this is Kibum. I have been telling about him a lot to you, right?”
“Ah, yeah, you did.”
Kibum, for once again, forced himself to calm before he grabbed Taemin by his collar and shook him, forcing him to spill just anything he had said to Jonghyun about him. Right. Like that would ever happen.
“So, Taem,”
Right. As if Jonghyun would keep his eyes on him longer than five seconds. Kibum had had enough.
“I...” Kibum cut their conversation in the midway, grabbing their attention back to him, “I’m going first, Taemin-ah. I have lots of assignments. Would that be okay?”
“Um, well, it’s okay. Take care. I will call you later.” Taemin smiled at him and Kibum had no heart to snap at him or what. Kibum got up, bowing a bit, before hurriedly walking away.
Kibum just couldn’t handle the weird stares those two were giving him.
This year’s winter was so cold. The wind was blowing really hard and it made Kibum shivered uncontrollably on his spot. He should have stopped being a bad son and hear his mother’s words of bringing the black thick jacket with him.
“Alone?”
Kibum jolted up in surprise as a sweet voice rang beside his ear. He spun around, meeting Jonghyun with his lopsided smile.
Oh God, stop smiling like that, Kibum hissed in his mind.
“Ah, yes. Good morning to you.”
Jonghyun smiled, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Morning. Do you know where Taemin is?”
Kibum almost lost his cool and he had a sudden idea of breaking Jonghyun’s nose. But, no, it was too fatal in the early morning.
“Taemin is having a morning class today. Don’t you know about that?” Kibum couldn’t help but being skeptical. Jonghyun chuckled, and Kibum swore he looked so freaking handsome.
“I know.”
Then what were you asking for, Kibum gritted his teeth in annoyance. He faked a smile and focused his attention on the traffic light. He was about to cross the road before Jonghyun talked to him. The cars had lessened and Kibum took the chance to cross the road. He felt someone following him and Kibum twisted his head, only to find Jonghyun trailing behind him with a smile.
Maybe he was going to the same direction as me, Kibum thought.
Kibum walked towards the small bakery he had found a week ago. He had the sudden urge for cheese cake and he had to have it now. Pushing the door and hearing the bell ringing above his head, Kibum let a tiny smile crept on his lips as he smelled the sweet fragrance of cream.
“In the mood for cake?” Kibum jolted up at the sudden question spoken by his ear and he spun around. He found Jonghyun again.
“Y-You... please, stop doing that. You start to creep me out.”
Jonghyun grinned and shrugged. “I can’t help it if you didn’t realize my presence.”
Kibum rolled his eyes and walked away, moving to the glass case. He smiled, tapping his fingers to his lips. He had wanted this cheese cake for two days already. He ordered the cake and walked to the counter to pay. However, a hand stopped him from taking his wallet.
“I’m paying,” murmured Jonghyun while handing his money. Kibum gap for a while before realization hit him. “Hey! You can’t do that!”
“I can and I did. Now,” Jonghyun grabbed the plate which was handed by the person behind the counter and pushed Kibum’s back, “find a table and you can eat.”
Kibum frowned at that. Just because I had a crush on you, Kibum muttered in his mind.
Jonghyun placed the plate on top of one empty table, dragging out the chair and pushed Kibum to sit. Kibum was practically half-glaring at him as he watched Jonghyun sat down across him.
“What are you waiting for? Dig in!”
Kibum folded his arms in annoyance. “I’m not going to eat it. You paid for it, not me.”
Jonghyun watched him with an amused gaze. “I’m treating you, silly.” He said and softly flicked his fingers against Kibum’s head.
Kibum could only stare. Okay, so, first, they didn’t know each other that well. Secondly, today was the first time they had talked this much. Third, Kibum had a
“Wait. Did you... hit your head before?”
Jonghyun chuckled. Okay, that meant no. Kibum fisted his bag and sighed. This wouldn’t be over of they had kept this continued. He picked up a fork and cut the cake into half.
“Here. You have to eat as well. It was paid with your money, after all.”
Jonghyun refused to but with the nagging and glared from Kibum, he gave up and ended up eating the half.
There was this curiosity in Kibum’s mind.
“Hey.”
“Hm?” Jonghyun looked up from the napkin he was folding at the moment.
“Why are you treating me? What do you want from me?” Kibum asked carefully. Jonghyun smiled and shrugged, before leaning back on his chair.
“You are Taemin’s friend.”
Oh.
Kibum felt the bile rising up in his stomach. So much for hoping something.
Taemin was annoying. Kibum grunted under his breathe. He had been having that frowned face for the entire time Taemin blabbered about how nice Jonghyun was, and so on.
Kibum had his fist curled; he could practically feel his nails digging into his skin. Maybe when he had made his bleed, Taemin would stop talking.
“Kibum? Are you listening?”
“Yeah.”
“You okay, Kibum?”
No, I’m not okay, you brat. Kibum had wanted to say it but instead he settled on an answer, “Oh, I’m perfectly fine. Don’t worry.”
Taemin nodded and smiled, before going back to how gentle Jonghyun was for giving him his jacket when he was freezing.
Kibum had had enough. He felt like choking Taemin and then locked the brat in his broom closet.
“Oh, Kibum-ah?”
What was it now. “Yes?”
“I called Jonghyun over. You don’t mind, right?”
Yes, I did mind. “Of course now. Why would I? This is your house anyway.”
I would wait for about five minutes then I would pretend to have a sudden call or what and then I would leave before he could come. Yeah, sounded like a good idea, Kibum agreed in his mind.
The doorbell rang and Taemin clapped his hands over excitedly, before leaving to open it. Kibum was practically face-palming and he readied himself for whatever would happen.
“Oh, hi!” Jonghyun could be such a good actor. He acted all surprised and all happy to find Kibum there. Kibum knew how much he wanted to be alone with Taemin.
Kibum stayed by the corner while those two flirted. He had wanted to leave if not for Taemin’s pleading eyes.
Being a single person meant a freedom. But being a single person meant loneliness.
Kibum had known that. He really should just find someone and got laid. Ever since Taemin confessed to him about crushing on the person he was crushing as well, Kibum seemed to lose his mind.
It was not his habit to walk around the town a day before Christmas. He had his nose all running and freezing and Kibum had seriously cursed himself for this idea. And now he was heading to the store selling various things for Christmas. Why? Kibum also didn’t know. Like being said before, Kibum had lost his mind.
“I see you are shopping for Christmas.”
Kibum clamped his hand over his mouth before a really loud scream could leave his mouth.
“Hi,” greeted Jonghyun casually as Kibum glared at him. “I remember telling you to stop doing that.”
Jonghyun gave him his lopsided smile. Kibum rolled his eyes.
“Stop bothering me and go to someone else.”
Jonghyun seemed to have a new habit of stalking him and following him with his mysterious way. Kibum had grown used to him. His heart hadn’t, however.
“What are you planning to buy?” Jonghyun asked, completely ignoring his previous remark.
Kibum hissed lowly like an annoyed kitten before turning on his heels to continue his journey. Jonghyun trailed behind him like an obedient puppy.
He walked along the shelves of the grocery store, pushing the cart while taking the view of the things. He would need a new bag of dog food for Kkomde. He swore that puppy ate a lot more nowadays. Jonghyun stopped in front of his cart, making him unable to move.
“What do you want? Get away from there.”
Jonghyun grinned, dropping a few useless things into the cart. Kibum shrieked and glared at him. He had no idea as to why would he had a crush on someone like Jonghyun.
“What are you doing!?”
Jonghyun ignored him, walking over and stood behind him. He placed his hands on each side of Kibum’s on the cart railing, before pushing it forward.
Kibum fought back the blush. Jonghyun was practically back-hugging him. Just what the hell was he doing right now?
“H-Hey!”
“Stay still, Kibum.” Jonghyun whispered into his ear. Kibum felt his knees weakened and he reluctantly nodded. He could feel Jonghyun’s happy grin.
“I also remember telling you to not paying for my things.” Kibum grumbled, one hand on his hips. Jonghyun grinned and shrugged, taking the shopping bag from Kibum’s hand. Kibum hissed and reached for it again.
“Just let me hold one!”
“I’m just taking the things I picked before,” Jonghyun said and Kibum sighed.
“Why didn’t you buy on your own then? Geez.”
“No reason. They are not even my things, they are Taemin’s.”
Kibum sealed his lips and buried his cold face into his scarf.
He should have seen this coming.
Jonghyun had taken the lead of his journey (by force) and brought him away from the crowded Christmas Eve in the center of the town. Kibum nagged at him. Jonghyun was seriously creeped him. He was holding onto Kibum’s wrist tightly to prevent him from running away and now they were heading to a darker place.
Kibum had grown scared.
“Okay. This is not funny. Tell me where you are taking me or I will scream.”
Jonghyun ignored him, only tightened his hold around him. Kibum had the sudden idea of kicking him, dumping him into one dark alley, and then left like a mysterious murderer.
He tried yanking his hand but it failed miserably. “Hey! Answer me, bastard!”
Jonghyun stopped. Kibum panted.
Then he turned around, head hung down and Kibum swore it was really creepy. He was like the ghost coming out from those horror movies.
Jonghyun chuckled darkly, lifting his head, and locking his gaze on Kibum’s questioning face.
“Go ahead and scream. No one’s here.”
Kibum felt goose bumps and he shivered. Oh no, he had a crush on someone so scary—
Laughter.
“You should have seen your face just now! It was so funny!” Jonghyun exclaimed in between his breathless laughs. Kibum blinked his eyes and he felt betrayed. How dare he...
“Fuck you.” Kibum yanked his hand out of his grip and began to walk away. He cursed under his breathe, tears brimming in his eyelids and blurring his sight. He couldn’t believe it.
“Wait, Kibum! I’m just joking! Taemin told me you are easily scared and I just want to prove it and—”
Kibum spun around. “You had proven it well now! Congratulation! Are you satisfied!?”
Jonghyun gap before he gulped. Kibum sniffed and glared at him. “Can’t believe it. I thought you are a good person... turned out you are no different to those out there.”
“B-But Taem—”
“Go fuck your fucking boyfriend and get the fuck away from me!”
Kibum hastily wiped the glimmering tears in his sight before turning on his heels, planning to leave for real.
He heard Jonghyun muttered, “...oh, fuck it,” before Kibum felt a hand enclosed over his wrist and he was spun around. He wanted to yell in annoyance but everything left his mind the moment he felt full lips crashing onto his own.
Was it real? Jonghyun was kissing him?
Kibum panted when Jonghyun stepped back, eyes staring at him. “W-What—”
“I can’t hold it anymore. I lose, you win, Kibum.”
Lose? Win? What?
“I don’t—”
“Of course you don’t understand. You are too focused on what Taemin had said and you are not focusing on me.”
Kibum blinked.
“Seriously, Kibum... are you really that slow?”
Kibum blinked again.
Jonghyun sighed and grabbed his hand, holding onto it gently. Kibum stayed silent, still too shocked to even think about anything. They stopped in front of one dark, secluded park and Jonghyun smiled to him. Kibum blinked.
“I brought you here... because I want to show you something.”
“...um, okay?”
What is he talking about, I seriously don’t get it, Kibum muttered confusedly in his mind.
Jonghyun tugged his hand, bringing him closer and Kibum tried to lean back when he felt Jonghyun was way too close to his face. “What are you doing...?” He could feel Jonghyun’s warm breathe hitting the side of his nose before he chuckled amusedly. “Kibum, close your eyes.”
“What for? I’m not interested for another game.”
Jonghyun squeezed his hand gently and whispered, “Trust me for his time.”
Kibum hesitated for a while before finally he closed his eyes with a sigh. He felt Jonghyun’s hands holding onto his shoulder, spinning him gently and he could feel his warmth pressed against his back.
“You can open your eyes now.” Jonghyun whispered by his ear. Kibum winced at any possible trick before slowly opened his eyes.
Various colors and blinking lights were covering the entire park, complete with various shapes.
“...oh...”
Kibum was still too amazed to even realize how Jonghyun had landed a squeezing embrace from behind. “...why are you showing me this?”
Jonghyun sighed and tightened his hold; that was when Kibum has finally realized that he waa being held.
“Are you really that oblivious?”
“Tell me and stop making it more confusing.” Kibum nagged. Jonghyun stepped back, gently turning him around and Kibum stares into his smiling eyes.
“I... made this bet with Taemin. Ah no, more like a deal.” Jonghyun started softly, a hand curling a few strands of Kibum’s hair. He blinked, waiting for the next words.
“I was sure you would confess first and Taemin said I would confess first.”
Kibum parted his lips in confusion. “...what are you talking about?”
Jonghyun laughed lightly. “You really don’t know?”
At Kibum’s answer with shaking his head no, Jonghyun leaned until his lips were pressed against Kibum’s ear, and he whispered: “I’m in love with you, silly.”
Kibum stepped back, eyes wide and round, bigger than his childhood friend, Minho.
“...w-wh-what? B-But Taemin,”
“That brat is a pro in lying. Why would you believe him? I have known him for ny entire life, by the way.”
“But Taemin likes you!”
“Of course he likes me! I’m his only cousin and he likes my wallet, by the way, not me.”
Oh, Kibum felt his head was spinning. It was too much for him. Taemin. Jonghyun. Crush. Like. Cousin. Love.
“You are in love with me!?”
Jonghyun clutched his stomach as he laughed. Kibum watched his handsome face as he laughed happily. Jonghyun then stopped altogether, grinning at him.
“You win, Kibum. You have won my heart.”
Kibum blushed at the words and gripped his jacket. He wanted to argue about something, just anything to save himself from the embarrassment, but Jonghyun just had to lean down and pressed their lips together for the second time that day.
“I was waiting for you for the whole time. I was waiting for the time you would give up and just confess already. But you were so stubborn, and you were so adorable that I couldn’t wait anymore.” Jonghyun said while gently pinching Kibum’s button-like nose. Kibum whined and swatted his hand away.
Jonghyun chuckled and brought him into his embrace. “Be mine, Kibum. Be my boyfriend for real.”
Kibum gripped onto the front of Jonghyun’s jacket and sighed. “Are you for real? I mean, I have my crush in front of me, telling me he is also crushing on me?”
“Yeah,” Jonghyun laughed. Kibum smiled and then he nodded his head. “Alright. Can’t let this great opportunity slip away.”
Jonghyun was about to kiss him again when Kibum stopped him. “Wait. Then, how long have you known about me crushing on you?”
Jonghyun shrugged with a smirk. “Ever since you stopped to stare at me. Last year’s spring.”
Kibum gasped.
“You are not that smart of hiding your feeling, to be honest.”
Kibum whimpered in embarrassment. Jonghyun laughed in happiness.
“Shut up, shortie.”
Kibum stared as Kkomde jumped around happily, running around the new guest. Jonghyun laughed at the pup, dancing like an idiot to match its happiness. Kibum rolled his eyes and wrapped the blanket tighter around his body.
“Could you stop it?” Kibum said, scoffing. Jonghyum grinned and sat down beside him on the couch, an arm draped around Kibum to pull him close.
“So... mind to tell me your plan to finish the Christmas Eve?” Jonghyun asked, nuzzling his nose into Kibum’s cheek. Kibum sighed at the obvious blush on his face, and nudged him away.
“I was planning to have a small Christmas party... with Kkomde.”
“Only the two of you?”
Kibum nodded. Jonghyun grinned and kissed him again, before whispering, “Have yourself a merry little Christmas... with me.”
A/N: A bit late present for Christmas but better late than never, right?
Merry Christmas, everybody! <3 Have fun! :D
