Summary: Jinki and Jonghyun got hurt because of him. Minho and Taemin left because of him. What was the use of living for Kibum? There was nothing left to him. Or that was what he used to think until four people that he loved the most were coming back. This was a story of broken friendship between five young boys who tried to mend the bond once again.

Kibum knew that being a son to a servant of a high-class family made him no different from any other servants’ children out there.
But Kibum felt something different that made him at least slightly special from them.
He had friends.
Kibum liked his friends; they were famous, rich, spoiled kids but they wanted to befriend him. Kibum had never really had a friend, since he was a poor kid, a son of the maid from the Lee’s family; the most powerful family out there.
He was lucky enough that the sons of the Lee family wanted him to be their friend.
Jinki was his name. He was the first one that managed to talk to Kibum, who at that time was crying alone on the corner of the luxurious garden. Five years old Kibum was such a crybaby; he would always cry even from the slightest thing.
Kibum was running before this. He loved the feeling of this garden even though he knew he should not run like this. He stepped onto a small stone, falling down onto his knees and the he cried. Kibum hated pain. He didn’t like it a bit.
But then someone tapped him on his shoulder when Kibum was holding onto his slightly bleeding knees, one of his free hands was wiping his tears.
“You okay?” And that was Jinki. Lee Jinki.
Kibum lifted his head up, face flushed in tears and his lips quivered. Jinki had such warm eyes. He smiled down at the five years old Kibum, even though he was just two years older than him he looked so grown up already.
“What’s your name? Why are you crying?”
“I’m... K-Kibum... I fell... and my knees hurt...” Kibum answered innocently, the mention of his fell made him wanted to cry even harder. The seven years old Jinki smiled and crouched down, patting Kibum’s head gently. “Don’t cry, okay? How about we get inside and treat your wound?”
Kibum nodded, his black silky hair bounced along his head. He whimpered, holding himself up with his palms flat on the ground, trying to push himself up. But then he cried again.
“I can’t!”
Little Jinki smiled gently and crouched down in front of him. “Get on my back, Kibum-ah.”
Kibum jutted out his bottom lip and nodded, getting onto the older boy’s back. He nestled his head on the older boy’s shoulder, hiccupping from his tears.
“Why did you fall, Kibum?”
“I... I was running around... But then that little stone tripped me!”
Jinki laughed at his answer; Kibum reminded him of his little brother. “Don’t run like that again, Kibum. You know now, right?”
Kibum nodded his eyes red from crying too much. He tightened his hold around the older boy’s neck. “What’s your name, hyung? Can I call you like that?”
He smiled. “I’m Jinki. And yes, you can call me anything that you like.”
“Jinki hyung! I like that sound!” cheered Kibum while wiggling on his back. Jinki giggled at his sudden mood change but he shrugged it away. “I don’t have a hyung before, but then I have one now!”
“Are you the only child, Kibum?”
Kibum nodded on his neck. “Yes. Mommy works here, hyung. I don’t get to see Mommy too often but I’m glad I met you, hyung! Are we friends now, Jinki hyung?”
Jinki smiled and nodded, “Yeah, of course! We are friends, Kibum!”
Kibum was so happy at that time.
Jinki introduced him to his little brother, Taemin, and Kibum let out his high-pitched squeal as he saw Jinki’s squishy little brother. “Jinki hyung, why is your brother so squishy?”
Kibum cradled the three years old boy’s cheeks in his palms and Taemin stared up at him curiously. Jinki grinned, patting Taemin’s head and told him to bow.
They became friends in no time and Kibum was so happy. He got an older brother and a younger brother now.
Kibum wasted his time with Jinki and Taemin more often. He often questioned the angry glare Jinki and Taemin’s parents were giving him, but he didn’t mind it. He didn’t understand anything.
A month later, Kibum was playing on the garden by himself. Jinki and Taemin were not allowed to go out before Jinki finished his home-schooling. Taemin stayed beside his older brother, not moving with a smile playing on his lips.
Kibum pouted and looked up at the high window of the mansion. Jinki and Taemin took so long. He held onto the flowers that he had picked up before. He wanted to make a flower crowns with these and put them on Jinki hyung’s and Taemin’s head. But they were still not coming out!
He climbed up the small green hill beside the flower garden by himself, walking slowly as to waste his time before finally Jinki and Taemin would come down. The wind blew a bit too strong on him and a few flowers flew away from his grip.
“Ah!” Kibum jumped, trying to grab the yellow and pink flowers but then they flew away to the other side of the hill. Kibum ran there, wanting to take them before the wind blew on them again.
But then a hand took them up, holding them in a firm grip. Kibum stopped in front of the boy, staring into his big-round eyes.
“Are they yours?” asked the boy with calm voice, hand pushing the flowers in his grips forward to Kibum.
Kibum nodded, taking them and said the thank you. The boy stared silently to him. “Who are you? I have never seen you before,” asked the boy.
Kibum smiled, giving out his hand for a simple handshake. “I’m Kibum!”
“My name is Minho. How old are you?” asked Minho while returning the handshake politely.
Kibum showed up his palm, showing his five fingers and Minho’s eyes lit up. “We are on the same age.”
“Really?” exclaimed Kibum excitedly. “I have never met someone on the same age as me before!”
Minho stared at him, opening his mouth to talk but then an adult came closer to them, “Minho, do not talk to that filth!”
Kibum tilted his head aside, “Filth? What is that?”
Minho glared at the person, taking Kibum’s hand into his and said, “Let’s run into the mansion!”
Kibum got no chance to answer as he was already pulled by Minho to run to the opposite direction. He still heard the shout from faraway, telling “Choi Minho, do not touch that filth!”
They ran away, more with Kibum trying to match Minho’s long legs until they stopped on one hidden spot between the garden and the mansion. Kibum panted, the flowers gripped tightly in his hand. “Why are we running, Minho-goon?”
Minho grinned, but Kibum could see a guilt in his eyes which was directed to Kibum. He didn’t understand that and decided to ignore it. “Nothing. Just want to run! Running makes you healthy!”
“Really? But Jinki hyung told me not to run or I will fall down again...” pouted Kibum. Minho’s ears perked up at the name. “You know Jinki hyung?”
Kibum nodded excitedly, chest pushed out proudly. “Yes! Jinki hyung is my hyung! And I’m Taeminnie’s hyung as well!”
Minho stared at him before giggling, holding onto his stomach. All of sudden, the door at the front mansion opened and they could hear Taemin’s babbling voice. Minho turned to Kibum, telling him to stay put and he would bring them here. Kibum nodded, wanting to meet those brothers as soon as possible. Minho left him for a while, before finally coming back with the Lee brothers trailing behind him.
“Jinki hyung! Taeminnie!”
He cradled the youngest in a tight hug, Taemin babbling nonsense against his shoulder. Jinki was questioning how Minho could know Kibum.
“Kibum-ah, this is Minho. He is our best friend.”
“Really? Would you like to be my friend as well, Minho-goon?” Kibum shook his arm, looking up at the slightly taller boy. Minho grinned at the cute sight and nodded his head, watching how Kibum danced around on his spot while singing the ‘I got a new friend!’ over and over.
“How did you meet, anyway?” asked Jinki, taking his poor brother from Kibum’s arms as he still danced like mad. He stopped dancing altogether, sitting down on the small bench there and began babbling.
“I was waiting for you two and so I picked up these flowers—oh, flowers! I wanted to make crowns for you two!—but I got bored so I walked to the hill, hyung! The green hill around there and then the wind blew, the flowers flew away and Minho-goon caught them for me! And then we met and then someone was talking about Minho-goon talking to filth and then Minho-goon pulled me to run because it was healthy and here we are!”
Jinki blinked at the long explanation, trying to digest every word into his mind as he ignored his brother’s light tapping on his cheek. Minho stood there, watching the oldest boy blinked blankly.
“Who? Who was that, Minho?”
Minho looked away, locking his gaze on his shoes. “Mom.”
Jinki sighed and readjusted Taemin’s position in his arms, before smiling to Kibum. “Did you fall again?”
Kibum shook his head, “No, hyung! Oh, hyung, what is filth?”
Jinki and Minho were taken aback at the question, exchanging awkward glance. “It’s not important, Kibum-ah. Let’s play, okay? Oh, you are saying about flower crown?”
Kibum gasped, holding up the flowers and grinned, “I will make three now since Minho-goon is now my friend as well!”
The four of them quickly became the best friend ever. Kibum still had an obsessive thing towards Taemin and Minho was now his everyday-arguing friend. They would argue whether the pink flower crown fitted on Taemin’s head.
“Taeminnie doesn’t fit with pink! I will go make a new one from yellow!”
“I have told you that Taemin fits everything!” Minho argued with him. Kibum huffed at his answer, asking for Jinki’s help but the oldest boy only shook his head and continued reading his book.
They played on the same spot now; the hidden place Minho took him after running. They needed privacy from the adults, said Jinki. Minho nodded enthusiastically and Kibum could only nod as he didn’t understand what privacy was.
“I will pick the yellow flowers! Minho, you ugly!” argued Kibum before sticking his tongue out and running away. Minho was about to run after him but then Taemin grabbed his fingers and began to play with them. Minho had no heart to let go.
Kibum walked along the spot where he knew the flowers were the prettiest. He picked up two when someone suddenly pushed him down. “Ah!”
He looked up, finding a foreign boy staring down at him. “Who are you? Why did you push me?”
“I should be the one asking you that. Who are you? How come you are here?”
“What do you mean?” asked Kibum offended while standing up. The boy pushed him again, Kibum got back onto his butt as he whimpered in pain.
“Why are you so meanie?!”
“Why are you so annoying?” asked the boy. Kibum pouted, wanting to ignore the boy and continued picking up the flowers.
The boy with round eyes pushed him away again and the flowers fell down. “Stop pushing me, you ugly monster!” shrieked Kibum. The boy crouched down beside him and grinned arrogantly. Kibum wanted to shove the flowers down his throat.
“What? Are you going to cry?” teased the boy. Kibum felt his eyes were tearing. He glared hard at the boy.
“Go away!”
“Why don’t you go away?”
Kibum’s lips quivered before finally he cried. He cried so hard, the annoyed feeling was growing in his chest. The boy was taken aback from his loud crying and then he panicked.
“H-Hey! Stop crying!”
Kibum ignored his words and squeezed his eyes, crying even harder. The boy looked around, sighing in relief when he heard the sound of feet running.
“Jinki!”
“What are you doing? Kibum, why are you crying?” asked Jinki, giving Taemin to Minho. He got onto his knees, wiping Kibum’s tears from his cheeks but he was still crying.
“Jonghyun, what did you do to him?”
“I... I...”
“How do we stop him from crying now?” shrieked Jinki, glaring hard at him. The boy scrunched up his nose before leaned closer; pressing his plump lips against Kibum’s wet cheek.
Kibum stopped crying, teary eyes opened before they blinked questioningly. He stared at the foreign boy beside him, staying so close to him.
“Jinki hyung?” croaked Kibum with his hoarse voice. Jinki helped him to stand up and Kibum instantly snuggled to him.
“He is so meanie! He teased me and pushed me down!” whined Kibum. Jinki sighed and rubbed his back.
“He is Jonghyun. My and Taeminnie’s cousin.”
“Your cousin, hyung? Why is he so ugly then? You and Taeminnie are so cute!”
Jonghyun pouted at the words and huffed. Jinki grinned, patting Kibum’s butt to clean the dust on his pants. “Yeah, he is. I’m sorry for what he did to you, but Jonghyun has the habit of picking on cute person.”
“I-I’m not! He is not cute!” shrieked Jonghyun with red face as if he was caught red-handed, stomping his foot childishly. Kibum blinked and stared at the boy, “Is he my hyung, Jinki hyung?”
“Yes, he is. Jonghyun is a year older then you, Kibum.”
Kibum stared at the still pouting boy, poking his puffed cheek with his index finger before giggling. “You are also cute, hyung!”
Jonghyun’s face flushed in red, before he swatted Kibum’s finger away. “I’m not cute! I’m a boy!”
Kibum was about to retort something else if Taemin didn’t suddenly reaching for Jonghyun out from Minho’s arms.
They met just a week ago, but they spent time more often than with the other boys. Kibum grinned as Jonghyun pulled onto his wrist, taking him up to the hill where Jonghyun exclaimed he found a big ladybug there.
They ran, with a certain pace, not too fast and not too slow, just a normal pace for them. They ran together without saying anything, hands locked.
Jinki watched as the two boys ran away, their hands swinging in the air. He wondered what Jonghyun did until he managed to take Kibum away from all of them.
They met for a week but they seemed to click very well. Like a pair of the most fitted puzzles ever.
“Jonghyun hyung, get it away from me!” Kibum shrieked when Jonghyun playfully brought the ladybug closer to him. He ran, circling the big oak tree as Jonghyun was a grinning idiot, swinging the red ladybug in the air to scare him.
“Kibummie, you have to try!”
“No, no! Go away!”
Kibum whined, crawling up the tree and it had Jonghyun giggling like a mad boy. He stopped teasing him altogether as he heard the cute cries coming from him. He dropped the ladybug, looking up at Kibum who was crying while hugging onto the tree.
“K-Kibummie!”
“Y-You are so mean!”
“O-Oh, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! Will you get down, Kibum?” asked Jonghyun in panic. He heard Kibum whimpered. “I-I can’t get down... It’s scary...”
Jonghyun stifled a laugh. Kibum was so scared that he could climb a tree without he realized and now he couldn’t get down.
“You can do it, Kibum! Put your legs on the branches and slowly get down here!”
“What if,” he stopped, hiccupping cutely before continuing, “what if I fell down?”
“You won’t! I’m down here, I will catch you even if you fell, Kibummie!” said Jonghyun confidently, successful in giving the younger boy the same confident. “I-I’ll try...”
Kibum did as what Jonghyun kept on repeating to him ‘one by one, Bummie’ and on the last branch, his foot slipped. He shrieked in horror and Jonghyun quickly ran forward, catching the smaller boy and they ended up laying flat on the ground.
“J-Jonghyun hyung...”
“Are you okay, Kibummie? You got down already!” exclaimed Jonghyun with a wide grin. Kibum stared at him worriedly; their faces were so close since Kibum was still laying flat on top of him.
“Hyung, are you hurt?”
“No. As long as you are okay then I’m okay as well, Kibum!”
Kibum got away from him, sitting on the ground, eyes watching Jonghyun’s every move carefully. Jonghyun sat up, grinning bravely at the younger boy in front of him. “I’m fine, Kibum! See?” said Jonghyun while wriggling his eyebrows. Kibum hiccupped, fresh tears threatening to fall again.
Jonghyun jumped, thumbs wiping his lids before the tears could roll down. “What are you crying for? We are okay!”
“I don’t know why I cry...” murmured Kibum; small fists wiping his eyes. Jonghyun looked around to see whether someone was around before he leaned forward, pressing his lips briefly against Kibum’s quivered ones.
It was always stopped him from crying.
“Why did you kiss me, hyung?”
“To stop your cry!” grinned Jonghyun. Kibum blinked the remaining tears before pouting. “Do you kiss every crying person?”
“No! Only you!”
Kibum’s eyes lit up, “Really?” And when he got the affirmation nod from Jonghyun, he continued, “Why is that, hyung?”
“No one really cried that hard as you before.”
Kibum giggled, his cheeks lifted up and dimples were showing. Jonghyun smiled; smiling Kibum was always the prettiest.
“Let’s get back to the others!” said Jonghyun, standing up before intertwining his fingers with Kibum’s.
Jinki watched as the two boys got back with wide smile on both their faces. “What happened? Where were you two going?”
Taemin gurgled incoherently; small legs running up to Kibum as if he missed him so much.
“We went to the hill!”
“What took you so long? I’m so worried,” said Jinki. Jonghyun walked up to him and patted him on his shoulder arrogantly.
“You don’t have to worry about us! I can take care of myself and I can take care of Kibum! I’m a strong boy!”
Jinki giggled amusedly, pushing Jonghyun away and crouched down to where Kibum was tickling Taemin gently. “Said someone who has the dirt and leaves on his hair!”
Jonghyun reached up to touch his hair and pulled out a dried leave from between his messy hair. He grinned, motioning for Minho to come and followed him.
They wanted to tickle Taemin but when the youngest boy pushed Kibum onto his back and straddled him, the tickle target was changed onto Kibum.
